About Dr. Schwartz

Dr. has been a Board Certified Ophthalmologist for 44 years and is pleased to be part of Desert Ophthalmology with Dr. Wallace Goldban.

Dr. Schwartz was born in Brooklyn, New York and grew up on Long Island. He attended Lawrence High School, Cornell University, and the State University of New York at Buffalo. He interned at Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center and did his ophthalmology residency at Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco.

After 2 years in the Army as a Major and Chief of Ophthalmology at Kenner Army Hospital in Ft. Lee, Virginia, he returned to private practice in Los Angeles. He was a founding member of the American Eye Institute and a staff member of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, serving terms as Clinical Chief of Ophthalmology and on the Medical Executive Committee. He was also vice chief of the Ellis Eye Center at Cedars for many years.

Dr. Schwartz also served many years on the volunteer faculty at USC Medical School as Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology, where he helped residents learn cataract as well as other surgeries. He also did volunteer surgery in both Mexico and Manaus, Brazil.

Dr. Schwartz had a general ophthalmology practice, caring for many grateful patients with glaucoma, cataracts, eye infections and inflammation as well as medical retina problems, Diabetes, Lasik, and refractions.

Retiring to Palm Springs three years ago, Dr. Schwartz is happy to be working two days a week doing medical ophthalmology, leaving the surgery in the very capable hands of Dr. Goldban.

Dr. Schwartz is married to Suzanne and has five children and 11 grandchildren. He gave up skiing, but loves his tennis games.
